Consilium S-VDR / VDR

Consilium Navigation has designed, manufactured and supplied Voyage Data Recorders for newbuildings and existing passenger ships since the requirement to carry VDR on board ships was initially introduced. SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 20 specifies the carriage requirements. The pending amendment of Regulation 20 will require most existing ships in international trades to carry at the minimum a simplified version of the VDR called S-VDR. The requirement to carry VDR will gradually be introduced as shown in the table below. The Consilium S-VDR is a simplified version of the VDR M3 design, offering many optional features besides the basic regulatory requirements. Up to approximately 15,000 existing ships are estimated to be subject to the new S-VDR carriage requirements.
S-VDR Implementation Date Proposal according to IMO MSC78 Existing cargo ships, constructed before 1 July 2002, when engaged in international voyages, shall befitted with S-VDR or VDR as follows: Cargo ships of 20,000 gross tonnage and upward, between 1 July 2006 and 1 July 2009. Cargo ships of 3,000 gross tonnage and upward but less than 20,000 gross tonnage, between 1 July 2007 and 1 July 2010.
S-VDR Main Unit
The Main Unit controls all other components in the system, It includes the primary data storage and from here the information can be easily exstracted. System configuration and performance checks are also done in the Main Unit. The system is completely passive and will not interrogate with other systems for data retrieval. The S-VDR system will store data from the past 12 hours (or optionally for longer periods), continuously erasing older data as new data is recorded.
Power Supply
The Power Supply Unit includes an UPS with batteries that will supply the system with power for maintaining the bridge audio running and recorded for 2 hours, in the event of a main power failure.
Microphone Units
The microphones are available for panel or bulkhead mounting as well as installation on open bridge wings. They includes built-in loudspeakers for automatic self-testing.
Capsule
The Capsule is continuously updated with data from the Main Unit. Data from the last 12 hours are stored.
Remote Alarm Panel SD4-6
The Remote Alarm Panel is intended for installation in the bridge main manoeuvre control console. It monitors and indicates status and alarms of the VDR system as well the system recording integrity.

Transas VDR / S-VDR 3200

Transas VDR / S-VDR 3200 is type-approved by QinetiQ and meets and exceeds IMO and IEC requirements.

The system is intended for safe collection and storage of voyage data such as ship position, movements, physical condition, bridge commands etc. for a defined time period, with the ability of later playback in accordance with the requirements of IEC 61996-2/61996. In the base configuration under mandatory requirements.

MEU unit

The MEU is based on a compact computer and contains all equipment necessary to meet mandatory VDR / S-VDR requirements. The unit is supplied with a UPS unit providing in excess of the minimum requirement of power to the computer for over 2 hours of audio recording during a blackout.
